“It’s ok, we’re going to get you out,” a voice yelled out in the darkness. An SUV lay flipped on its side as silhouettes of first responders appeared through flashing lights. My heart felt like it had jumped into my throat as I was ushered past an accident scene on my way home from work a few days ago. As I drove by a voice from outside repeated the words that have echoed through my head all week, “It’s ok, we’re going to get you out.” The helpers had already arrived and were taking care of everything.
Paramedics, firefighters, police, and other trained first responders head out into the unknown every day. These men and women run towards danger and sacrifice their own safety for others on a daily basis. They are out there in all seasons and weather temperatures willing to help wherever they can. For all the first responders – for all the helpers – I am thankful!
