“I Have a Dream” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK - Mountaintop Speech (2)

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lived a short life but in his short years on this earth he achieved more than most of us can dream. He was a pastor, a civil rights leader, and a noble prize winner at the age of thirty-five. Dr. King’s strong belief in doing right for others was visible in his speeches, interviews, and actions. Dr. King had his own dream and inspired by Ghandi’s success with non-violent activism; he sought equal rights for all.

MLK - Happiness for others

I watched old interviews and speeches online and there were many things I noticed about Dr. King. He listened to questions carefully and answered eloquently. He gave intelligent and thoughtful answers to political questions aimed at him from reporters. He captivated his listeners and had a method of pulling them in to hear his truth, which may have made him one of the best orators of all time. In an era of unfair and unjust times, he was also simply a father, a brother, a son. He wanted the same things for his children that we all want for our children.

MLK - Good Samaritan

Dr. King was a courageous leader who stood up for what he believed in… helping others. Today, I along with millions of people around the world, honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Let us all go forth and be kinder to each other, let us help each other even when it requires bravery to do so, let us not judge but try to understand, and let us hold out our hands not to receive but to give.

  6. Watched Gandhi (the film with Sir Ben Kingsley) this week, and was struck again quite powerfully by the influence such individuals as little Gandhi and robust Luther King have had on humanity, history, our wide and our particular consciousness. It’s crucial to have reminder like yours here of their lasting impact.

Thanks for always stopping by my blog and for cheering me on with my book release. I do appreciate it!–M

  7. Great leaders deserve to be remembered and honored. I have great respect for both Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Born in different times yet their message for the greater good of all transcends time and negativity in the world. I will have to put that movie on my must watch list. Congratulations on your book release! Your blog is very inspiring and I enjoy reading your stories. Keep up the great work! 🙂
